01 · Getting Started

The basics

What is Perfume Lens?
Perfume Lens is a fragrance discovery app. Point your camera at any perfume bottle and get instant details: notes, family, moods, perfumer, and sister scents. Save the fragrances you love to your Wardrobe and build lists for any reason or season.
Who is it for?
Anyone curious about fragrance. New enthusiasts who want to learn what they're smelling, experienced collectors who want to catalog what they own, and anyone who has ever picked up a bottle and wondered what was inside.
Where can I download it?
Perfume Lens is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and on Google Play for Android.
Is an account required?
You can browse and scan without an account, but you need one to save fragrances to your Wardrobe, create lists, or follow curators. Sign in with email, Apple, or Google.
Does it cost anything?
The app is free to download and use. Core features, including unlimited scanning, details, and Wardrobe, are free.

02 · Scanning & Identification

Point, shoot, know

How does the scan work?
Point your camera at any perfume bottle. The app uses AI to read the label, analyze the bottle, and match it against one of the largest fragrance databases in the world. Results come back in a few seconds.
What if the lighting is bad or the bottle is at an angle?
The app works best with the label facing the camera and enough light to read the text. If a scan returns a poor match, try again from a different angle, move closer, or use the search field to find the fragrance by name.
How accurate is the identification?
The database includes tens of thousands of fragrances. For well-known brands and clear labels, matches are fast and reliable. Niche, vintage, or poorly lit bottles can be harder to identify. If you get a wrong match, tap to report it and the team will review.
Can I identify a fragrance without the bottle?
Yes. Use the search field to find fragrances by name, brand, or perfumer. Search works across the same database the scan uses.
What does the app show me once it identifies a bottle?
You'll see the brand, year, perfumer, fragrance family, top notes, heart notes, base notes, and a mood profile. Where available, you'll also see similar fragrances and lists that feature the bottle.
What if the fragrance is missing from the database?
Tap the report option or email support. Missing entries get added as the team verifies them. If you have authoritative information (packaging photos, press releases, perfumer credits), send it along.

03 · Your Wardrobe

Where fragrances live

What is the Wardrobe?
The Wardrobe is where your fragrances live. Anything you scan, search, or save lands here. It's the difference between a bottle you've seen once and a bottle you want to remember.
How do I save a fragrance?
From any fragrance detail page, tap the heart to like it, the bottle icon to mark it as owned, or the bookmark to save it for later. Each of these puts the fragrance in your Wardrobe under the matching filter.
Can I make fragrance lists?
Yes. Create lists for any reason: summer scents, gift ideas, bottles you want to try. Lists can be private or shared. You can follow lists other people make.
What's the difference between Like, Own, and Save?
Like is a signal to the recommendation engine. Liked fragrances improve your matches. Own marks bottles in your physical collection. Save is a bookmark for bottles you want to revisit. A fragrance can be all three.
Does disliking a fragrance remove it from my matches?
Dislikes are a signal, not a hide. The engine uses dislikes to steer recommendations away from similar scents, but you can still find the fragrance through search or the database.

04 · Discovery, Matches & Moods

Finding what fits

How do recommendations work?
Perfume Lens builds a taste profile from the fragrances you like, dislike, and own. Four matching approaches run in parallel: similar fragrances by family, by notes, by mood, and by the overall fingerprint of the scent. The more you use the app, the sharper your matches get.
What are moods?
Moods describe how a fragrance feels, not what it contains. Warm, Fresh, Playful, Sensual, and others. Moods are useful when you don't know the vocabulary of notes or families yet but can name the feeling you want.
What are fragrance families?
Families group scents by their dominant character: Amber, Woody, Fresh, Floral, and more. Every fragrance belongs to at least one family. Families are useful for exploring the shape of fragrance as a whole.
What are top, heart, and base notes?
Top notes are what you smell first, usually bright and short-lived. Heart notes are the main body of the fragrance, settling in after a few minutes. Base notes are what lingers for hours. Every fragrance in the database is broken down this way.
How do I find my next signature scent?
Start by liking a few fragrances you already know and enjoy. Browse the Matches tab. Explore by family or by note to widen or narrow the field. The more signals you give the app, the better it gets at surfacing scents you'll want to try.

05 · Account, Privacy & Data

Your data, your call

What happens to the photos I take?
Photos are processed for fragrance identification and are not stored permanently unless you explicitly save them to a fragrance entry in your Wardrobe. Nothing is shared with third parties.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All account data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Passwords are hashed. Only you can see your private Wardrobe and private lists.
Do you sell user data?
No. Perfume Lens does not sell, rent, or share user data with advertisers or third-party data brokers.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings in the app, tap Delete Account, and confirm. This removes your Wardrobe, lists, preferences, and account history within 30 days.
Can I use the app without signing in?
Yes, for scanning, browsing, and search. Sign-in is required for saving to the Wardrobe, making lists, or syncing across devices.

06 · Troubleshooting

When things get weird

The app can't identify a bottle I know is in the database.
Clear the camera view, make sure the label is readable, and try a second angle. If the bottle is hard to photograph, use search to find it by name. If you still can't find it, report the issue and the team will investigate.
My recommendations feel off.
Recommendations sharpen with use. Like a few fragrances you know you love, dislike a few that miss for you, and check back. If matches still feel wrong after a dozen signals, email support with a few examples and the team can look at your profile.
A fragrance entry has wrong information.
Tap the report option on the detail page and describe what's wrong. Corrections are reviewed by the data team.
My Wardrobe isn't syncing across devices.
Make sure you're signed in with the same account on each device. Pull to refresh the Wardrobe tab. If sync still hasn't happened after a minute, sign out and sign back in.
The app crashed or is slow.
Force quit and relaunch first. If the issue continues, restart your device, check for app updates, and check your internet connection. Persistent issues should go to support with your device model, OS version, and a description of what you were doing when it happened.
How do I contact support?
Email support through the app (Settings → Help) or use the contact section below. Include your device, OS version, and a description of the issue. The team reads every message.

For Brands & Perfumers

Partnerships & press

I'm a perfume house. How do I get my fragrances included or corrected?
Email partnerships@perfumelens.pro. Include your brand, the fragrances you want listed or corrected, and any supporting documentation (press materials, perfumer credits, note breakdowns). Brand-verified entries are marked on the app.
I'm a fragrance reviewer or blogger. Can I be featured?
Make your lists public inside the app and email press@perfumelens.pro to let the team know. Editorial features highlight active public lists and reviewers with distinctive taste.
